The journey to Australia was interesting, to say the least. Being the small-town Vermont resident I am, travel has never been a huge part of my life. Add the fact that I was mildly terrified of flying to the mix, and you could say that this was not a journey I was looking forward to.
The bus ride to Ottawa was fun, but once we stepped foot in the airport my heart instantly started racing. We boarded the plane, and anticipation overtook me; I was excited to finally begin the long journey overseas!
The first flight flew by; I was way more excited about the in-flight entertainment system than I should have been! By the time we reached Vancouver, however, I was exhausted and ready to call it a day. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The next flight came quicker than I was ready for, and before I knew it we were boarded and ready to cross the Pacific!
An unexpected detour to Honolulu added some time to our trip, but I was able to sleep through a good portion of the flight, which was a pleasant surprise. By the time we reached Sydney, I had no idea what time it was, or even what day it was for that matter! But that was all irrelevant, because we were in Australia!!!
After a 5-hour layover in the Sydney airport, we were ready to start our final leg of the journey to Adelaide. Unintentionally, I fell asleep and woke up during our descent. Made for a short journey, but definitely didn’t help with the jet lag. By the time we reached the hotel, I was thoroughly exhausted and ready to sleep. Our journey had exceeded 30 hours, but it was so worth it. We had finally reached Australia, and I couldn’t be more excited!
